Lake Mahopac in Mahopac, NY
Some of the highest prices in Mahopac are found on the north shore of the lake. Mansions, both historic and new, many with private tennis courts, can be glimpsed through the trees along North Lake Boulevard. Adding to the boulevard's prestige is the Mahopac Country Club, a 109-year-old private golf club.
On the lake's east shore, the boulevard divides more modest homes from their lake frontage. Owners carefully stake out lakefront parcels with fences and trees. The owners of one Mahopac property are completing a dream project to build a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home on a private island within Lake Mahopac. Every summer, the lake is filled with boaters, water skiers and swimmers, reminding observers why Mahopac became so popular nearly 200 years ago.
